History of Communication Technologies:
Throughout history, humans and animals have been constantly communicating, whether it be by means of body language, sounds, or actions. Communication is a vile attribute to society. Without communication, nothing would ever be achieved, protected, or recieved. During the electromechanical age, humans realized that they could use their technological advancements to communicate. The telegraph was created in the early 1800s.
This was used to communicate messages across long distances. The communication was made by use of Morse code. Morse code was created by Samuel Morse in 1835. Morse code consists of dots and dashes to depict characters.
After the telegraph, came the telephone. There is dispute over who actually created the telephone because during the early stages of invention, there were many different technologies that exemplify a telephone. This consisted of many mechanical acoustic devices, such as speaking tubes and tin can “phones”.

The telephone has continued to evolve over the last century. From metal and wood, to the smartphones in everybody’s pocket.
Modern-Day Technological Communication:
Technology has changed the way our society communicates. Most communication is performed by means of technology. Studies show that the younger generations are losing their verbal communication skills. Communication has become strictly digital. Almost everyone has a cell phone in their pocket and a computer at home. The use of landline telephones is becoming obsolete. There is little need for a landline when an entire household has cell phones in their pockets. Cellular devices have changed the way our society operates. There is calling and texting but now it has advanced much further. We have email, social media platforms, teleconferencing, video chats, and much more. This changes the way humans communicate to each other. Over the internet, there is no use of specific verbal tones or body language to decipher the true means of a message. This can lead to misinterpretation of a person’s message. People need to be aware of what they are saying when they are communicating via technology. There can be serious consequences and confusion of a message just because it has been misinterpreted. The best way to avoid this situation is to carefully think about what you want to say before you say it, and type it in a way that clearly states the objective of your message.
Future of Communication Technologies:
Technology is constantly changing and advancing. Communication is something that will always be necessary to our society. There are thoughts of the possibility of using augmented reality for communication. Some believe that there will be more touchscreens in our environments. There is also the possibility of using machines to communicate, but by means of brain signals.

Wherever technology takes us, communication will always be important. As a society, we should never forget where communication has advanced from, and how important it is. There are many ways to communicate, but in my opinion, the best way is verbally.
